The complete smog system was required on all 1968 and later model cars. With the advent of EFI and catalytic converters the air injection system was no longer needed to meet emissions requirements. If you haven't ever had it out of there, you'd be surprised how heavy the smog pump is along with the pipes to the cats.Here is the essential part. The belt needs to wrap on top and keep following from the right to the left of the water pump pulley. From the left side of the water pump, cross underneath to the right side of the crank pulley, wrap down and around to the left. Worked for me...belt for smog pump delete. Since I don't have cats and the smog pump is useless, I finally got around to getting a shorter belt to bypass the smog pump. After spending 20+ minutes in the Advance Auto parking lot with 5 different belts, the one that fit right for me was a Dayco 5060918.
