I'm looking over ballistics tables over on the Federal site, the 124 gr stuff seems to have an energy advantage at short range versus the 147 gr stuff. Personally, I go heavy for caliber. This is best for guns with shorter barrels (ie conceal carry) vs the 147 grain standard pressure load. Either brand. I think Gold Dot tends to penetrate further and HSTs tend to get slightly larger expansion. I carry 124 grain HST, but honestly gold dots will work just as well.
