A nail set has a cupped point that will deform the plastic pins. You must use a solid bench block heavy enough to keep the gun from moving (instead of the pin moving). A vice is good, a steel bench block is good. If you have a drill press, you can chuck the punch and use the quill / handle to press the pins out.
