The car has 90k miles on it. Prior to installing the VCM tuner, we had 2 incidents of the check engine light coming on and replacing spark plugs. Since the last CEL, we replaced spark plug #2 and installed the VCM Tuner II. With VCM, both heads have to be removed and head gaskets replaced, but also oil pan removed, pistons and rods removed, re-ringed, and put back together. It still manipulates ECT1 into returning a lower-than-actual temperature to keep VCM disabled, but it uses programming on a circuit board instead of a resistor to modify the signal.The only advantage VCMTuner II has over the S-VCM controller is a built-in accelerometer that allows it to automatically recognize when the engine is being warmed up at a standstill for certain maintenance and repair procedures. The S-VCM controller has to have its power wire disconnected from the battery in these cases.

Some people can detect the engine vibrations when its active and others have no clue. Its is bad. Piston rings get stuck or loose, oil leaks by (why you were low on oil), oil is burned and fouls the spark plugs (causing misfires and eventually engine will run very rough with lots of lights), burnt oil fouls the catalysts (which lowers their performance which will make you fail emissions testing if required), VCM operation causes wear on the very expensive ACM engine mounts.
