I read online that, if build right, the dmg difference should be minimal if any at all. So far i should be doing at least 25% less damage then with just a 2hand weapon.
Lvl 10 is the highest level that dual wield is useful, maybe 11 if you want to be picky but lvl 10 is the bad build killer. So as long as larian stays below lvl 10, Dual wield and other weaker builds will stay "viable". Obviously, Dual wield is still shit, but before lvl 10 it's not self induced crippling effect.
Gloomstalker Ranger I think works nicely in lieu of EK too if you go Thief 4 to make up for a lost feat. I just finished a dual wield crit focused durge run and it melts. 4 Thief 8 Champion. You cant use dual rapiers anymore , unless you use the Dual Wielder feat at level 4. Rogue is generally seen as the better class in general and having more attacks is always good for them.
